Ukraine Initiative: Helping Ukraine through research and academic collaboration

CSCM is home to some of Romania’s leading experts on Ukraine. With the country under full-scale attack from Russia, their research, knowledge of the region, and collaborations with other Ukraine scholars have never been so important.

Since February last year, researchers at the Center for Comparative Migration Studies (CSCM) have been working to disseminate knowledge to the Romanian public. They have also led initiatives to promote greater research collaboration between Ukraine experts in Romania.
CSCM has been conducting research into Ukraine—including extensive collaboration with colleagues in the country—since 2020. In particular, CSCM researchers had already been studying international migration, political reforms, inter-ethnic relations, language and identity—both at the local and state levels—when Russia launched its full-scale invasion 24 February 2022.
Several current and recent research projects focused on Ukraine are based out of CSCM:

2023 – 2026: Data Collection, Analysis And Reports On Ukrainian Refugees In Romania (DCAR-URR)

2024: Combating pro-Kremlin disinformation among young people from Cluj (CpKD-YCJ)

2024: Mapping out the Contributions of the Refugee Response in Romania. Enhancing Understanding and Promoting Durable Solutions in Humanitarian Assistance (CoRRP).
